Update 16th Sep: Scroll down to comments for some technical info about moving to InnoDB
As Drupal grows in popularity as a robust enterprise-grade CMS, there is a growing need for high quality hosting. One of the more interesting alternatives is Acquia Hosting - a specialized Drupal hosting solution from Acquia. Acquia is the firm co-counded by Dries Buytaert, who also started the Drupal project in 2001. Acquia's Drupal hosting platform is based on the Amazon cloud infrastructure and is highly optimized for the requirements of Drupal.
I gave a presentation about Drupal for video at Drupal Focus on Pulishers event on August 13th. The event was a huge success, great community of people (as usual) and a lot of valuable information provided by presenters.
Find my presentation slides below.
We just published a first beta version of the Brightcove video module for Drupal. Feel free to download it from Drupal.org and test it out (Follow basic instructions in a README.txt file)! We are happy to hear any suggestions or bug reports. The best place to post them is the Drupal.org issue tracker.
- Media Mover integration is missing.
- Autocomplete without browser is broken.
Here is a video that was originally made for showing to project stakeholders.
We're publishing it on our blog now so that the public can better see the stages the project went through.
This video shows the initial phases which included the creation of a cck field and browsing existing BrightCove Studio videos to populate the fields, with basic display functionality.
I am sure anyone has ever created a Drupal View that is not ideal and should be made better. But in the same time, if you have a high-traffic site, you might find it hard to redo such a view due to any dependencies that the view might have. This mini showcase will provide some info on how we managed to fix the view without changing it - by altering it's query.
We have been approached with problems on one site that uses a very complex view with a query that usually takes more than 9 seconds on MySQL. The query was frightening:
We are in the middle of our development cycle doing a Brightcove module for Drupal and we are currently discussing following issue: The module would be even cooler if it provides Imagecache support for thumbnails and still images coming from Brightcove Media API (still images are single frames from the video).
Our development of Brightcove module is steadily progressing and I thought it would be useful to explain a bit about our development processes. For version control we use Git on all of our internal projects, so for Brightcove we decided to utilize this same tool with just a small change - using github.com instead our own private repositories.
If you are looking for slides from last Drupal meetup in Prague, Czech Republic, here you go. I gave a presentation about Drupal Security (again :)
